See summary of solar energy presentation below
Speaker Shay Hill from the JEA regarding solar panels - abbreviated notes.
1. JEA has eight solar facilites in the City of Jacksonville located mainly
on the west and north sides of Jax. Looking at options to buy more land
to build more facilites. Takes a lot of land to produce solar power and
because JEA is publicly owned, money has to be allocated whereas
Florida Power and Light is investor owned and is able to purchase large
tracks of land more easily.
2. For homeowners with solar panels, JEA only gives credit on the Fuel
Adjustment portion of homeowner's monthly bill.
3. JEA does not sell solar panels for homes. Individual companies solicit
customers. Read contracts carefully. Get several quotes. Call Shay Hill
at the JEA if you have questions. Remember, power credit is NOT given
on the customer's entire monthly bill. Be aware of this when listening to a
sales pitch.
4. During question and answer period, one CPAC member stated it doesn't
seem like the customer is getting much return for the investment of the
panels. Think about the purchase of panels very carefully.
